Should Routines Feel Like Groundhog Day [Routines Redefined]

Do your routines ever feel like groundhog day? Is this a good thing or not? In this episode of the Routine and Things Podcast I’m sharing my perspective on routines feeling like groundhog day and my answer just may be what you need to hear today!

And either way, I strongly believe routines can be a springboard for improving your home, yourself and your life. I'm Ashley Brown. And this is the routine and things podcast. Hey, and welcome back for another episode of the routine and things podcast. So in this episode, I wanted to do routines redefined. And really just answering the question of should your routine feel like Groundhog Day, if you are unsure about what Groundhog Day is, it is a movie. That was I think it came out in the 80s. Don't quote me on that. Because I've honestly only seen it one time when I was younger. And I know the premise of it. But it's been a while. So don't quote me on that. But it's a movie that came out. And the movie was basically surrounding like this young boy getting up every day he woke up his day look the same every single day. Which when you think about that, I don't know when I think about that, that can kind of drive you insane, like What the frick is going on here. So should your routines feel like that should they feel like you are repeating the same steps in your day over and over and over. And every time you wake up, you're doing the same thing, you're going to bed the same way, so on and so forth. I'm going to say that it can feel like that at times in at certain seasons in life, it needs to feel that way. But I also want to share that your routines do not have to feel so much like you are doing the same exact actions over and over and over.

Because that's when we talk about flexibility with routine and really making them your own and spicing them up through enjoyable things that you can do in your routine and add to your routines. So that's why I talk very heavily about flexibility, and fun in routine. Because you don't have to feel as if you are repeating the same things over and over and that your days and just what you're doing your day feels like Groundhog Day, it does not have to feel like that. However, like I was saying in certain seasons of life, having a routine that you can stick to is very, very helpful, especially when there's intentionality with that if we are having times in our life where things are a bit chaotic, we are stressed. And it's a lot of overwhelming anxiety surrounding what's going on in our day to day. Having a rigid routine can help to bring us out of that or having a having a more structure, I don't really like to even say rigid, but having a more structured routine, you kind of bring us out of that sometimes and oftentimes.

So I will say that, depending on what you need for your life right now. Your routines may feel like Groundhog Day, but it's not an absolute, they don't need to feel like that. And if you don't want them to feel like that they don't need to. And so that's where the flexibility comes in, I definitely have a podcast episode talking about flexibility. So go back through I think it is one of the first episodes and so if you go back through and you see that, then listen to that episode because it can be really helpful. And I just want you to know that you make the rules for your routines, you make your routines, how you want for them to feel. And I want you to feel comfortable doing your routines and not so much like it's so monotonous right routines, after some time may start to feel like that. But that's when you add in the fun to break up that monotony. That's when you spice it up a little bit. I know that for me, I change up my routines many times depending on what season we're in. So if it's becoming fall, right, I will start to change up my routine slightly to add in some fall vibes to give it that fall feel that far refresh.

And so you can think about it that way. Like if you're thinking about a certain routine and it is starting to feel like Groundhog Day. Break it up some by either switching up a certain action you're doing your routine a certain step or also think about adding in some things that you enjoy Always switching those things up a bit. You may have to just revamp the entire routine if it's getting to the point where you're doing a routine and you're getting really bored or you're like, yeah, this ain't working. So lets just share my thoughts about should routines for like Groundhog Day, and it's really going to depend upon what you feel like you need for your life. And certain seasons that may work in other seasons, that's not going to work for you. So decide what you need and do what you feel and what your heart is calling you to do. But that's it for this episode. I just wanted to share that briefly. And hopefully, it gave you some inspiration to know that you can tweak your routine and change it and spice it up.
