Hey, welcome back for another episode of the routine and things podcast. So I'm happy that you are joining me today. This episode is one that has been on my heart just to assess how you're doing right now. And to give you some steps to get you out of the funk. Because I'm pretty sure if you press play on this week's episode is because you do feel like you need a fresh start. And don't we all in life at certain points, right in certain seasons of life. Feel like we need to start fresh, we need that fresh start to get us on back to feeling like our best and favorite self. And I want you to feel that way. So first question is How are you doing? How are you actually feeling? How are you feeling today? How have you been feeling? I wish I could hear you respond back. But if you said any of these tired, overwhelmed, stuck, frazzled, discombobulated, drowning, exhausted, anxious, I feel you. I totally get it. And I am here for you.
Ashley Brown 2:49
That's why I'm doing today's podcast episode, I want to share a story with you today when I felt like I needed a fresh start. It's been many points in my life, I'm not gonna lie. But I want to share this specific story. And it was after I had my first baby girl, it was after going back to work. After having my first baby girl, you know in the in those times is like you, you don't know what it is to be a mom and you have a baby. And you're with your child for three months, if you have the privilege of even being away from your child being able to afford to be away from your child for that amount of time, right? Like the extended amount of time that your work gives you. Which here in Maryland is three months. And so I had the three months with my baby girl. And then it was time for me to head back to work. I mean, this time in my life was so anxiety provoking. It's insane to even think about today. Because first of all, I did not want her to be in daycare that was first and foremost.
Ashley Brown 3:57
I just it was something like internally, it was something internal for me and I know if you're a mom, you're getting this you're feeling this is like the internal battle sometimes. That's like, I know you need to be cared for by someone because I need to work because we need to pay bills and to live life bills have to be paid right? But then is this also this instinctual like motherly feeling that is too soon. Like is too soon. And so that's what was coming up for me. But I did what I needed to do, like we always do. And luckily she was able to stay with her grandmother when I went back to work and so she was with her well with actually her great grandmother and her grandma her great grandmother, thank God for her. And so she went to stay with and be careful by her great grandmother while me and my husband went back to work. And after going back to work I don't know I would say probably like a month or two in the schedule that we were on was freaking crazy. It was overwhelming.
Ashley Brown 5:07
And it was like, okay, wake up, get her dressed. It was like, early in the morning, I was the drop off parent. So I had to drop off to her grandma, great grandmother's get up early. I had to be to work by 730. Get up early. Drop her off here, my butt to work, make sure first of all, make sure she has everything because I was pumping as well. pumping. Make sure she has her milk, her bottles, everything she needs. Go drop her off head to work on my work until about five 5:30 some days. Then I would come home. My husband would go and pick her up from our grandmother's house. My husband worked pretty far away. He wouldn't get home with her until around 630 maybe seven. Most days was seven o'clock. Would get home with her at seven. We're like, of course I need to eat he needs to eat. She needs to be fed, I need to pump wasn't getting no sleep, had to then wake right back up and do it again.
Ashley Brown 6:14
Yep, super freaking overwhelming. And I was like, Nah, it got to be another way. I was like, it has to be another way. This ain't about to be my life. So that was a time like legitly could have broken down. That was a time where life I was like nah we need a fresh start here. And that time led me to actually becoming a stay at home mom and figuring some stuff out. Because it was just chaotic. And it didn't feel good. It didn't feel right. It felt highly uncomfortable. It felt like I was running a rat race that I could not slow down. And I could not I could not have it be that way. And so I want to share with you just the process that I go through and the process that I think could be helpful for you to go through when you are wanting to start fresh. When you're like I need a fresh start here or I need just like to slow down. Right?
Ashley Brown 7:30
Because honestly a fresh start is about slowing down and like reevaluating I feel like and so I'm going to go through five steps that it usually takes. When it comes to you slowing down in life and feeling like you can start fresh, okay, and so the first step is you first want to decompress. And decompression is really important, okay, so decompression usually takes place, right? We need to take that breather, we need to take a time out. Right? We need to collect ourselves. Second step is acceptance, accepting how our life looks, no matter how hard it feels, no matter if we want it to be changed, just accepting that this is where we are in this season of life. And it is what it is. Right? That is a huge piece. And acceptance can be super hard. And I've talked about that before it can be. But it can also be very beneficial to just growing and moving out of the space that you want to get out of. The third step is recognition, recognizing how you feel, recognizing that you can also actually move beyond that Ill feeling or move beyond the stressful situation that you're in that recognition is really important. Knowing that you have the power.
Ashley Brown 7:46
Fourth step is clarity. Gaining clarity on what's happening, gaining clarity on how you can actually move beyond where you are gaining clarity on what's going to help you feel better in life. And the fifth and final step is takinf action on that. Taking action, right and nothing is going to change unless we take action towards it. And so that is the final step. And so that's usually the process that I go through when it comes to me wanting to start fresh. When I want to change something about my life when I want to slow down, take a little break and a breather and start new. That's the process I go through. And so I'm sharing it with you today because I think it can be really helpful. And I'm super excited to share with you today about a series that I created for you is called fresh start. It is a five part audio series for getting unstuck, removing overwhelm and learning to juggle it all and the five steps that I went through today.
Ashley Brown 10:00
