A Peek Inside My Family's Morning Routine

Hey, welcome back for another episode of the routine and things podcast in today's episode, which is going to be very short and sweet. I'm going to be giving you an inside look into my family's morning routine. To give you perspective on how this routine can look, I think is really important that I share with you examples of routines because we can sometimes have something in our heads in terms of like what a routine is, quote unquote supposed to look like when really is all about what you need, what your family needs, what your routine needs to encompass, in order for it to be helpful for you in order for things to run smoothly for you and your home for your family. And so I just think sharing this routine with you is going to be really helpful to give you a perspective that oh, a routine can look like that, too. Okay, got you. So this is our routine.

Okay, mine and the girls. So this is our routine put together. So when I say my family's morning routine, I am including my morning routine, and the girls morning routine, which encompasses our family's morning routine. So I wanted to be clear about saying that. Okay, so this is the breakdown of our routine. And before I share it, I want for you to know that this took time to get to this was not an overnight process. It didn't take long, but it took time. Okay. And so now we have this routine, it flows like clock work, everybody knows it is easy to do. It's simple to the point, we wake up in the morning, we get out the door and everybody's a happy camper for the most part. And so when my girls want to throw tantrums and it's like wait, that was not in the morning routine. So anyway, let me get to the routine. So this is our morning routine. First thing I wake up, okay, I get up. How does this look? I'm like rolling my eyes in the back of my head. I'm like, Okay, gotta get up this morning. I went to bed at a pretty good time. But I'm still like, I'm not a morning morning person.

So I still want to keep my butt in bed till around like 730 at least but that's not my life right now. My girls have to be taken to school at that time. So anyway, I'm like, waking up. So I wake up, then the next thing that I do after I wake up in my mini routine is I typically pray and I will say three things I'm grateful for. Right. So that's what I do wake up pray three things I'm grateful for Thank you God. And then I get up and get myself together, dressed together, whatever I need to do. If that's some days, it might be I need to take a shower. Some days I don't because I took a shower the night before. And so it's just getting myself together. If I want to put on makeup if I don't if I want to get dressed really cute if I don't. I'm just getting dressed, getting myself together. And typically I'm listening to a podcast. That is my fun element that I have in my routine is a podcast. And so that's the next part, get myself together, get myself dressed for the day. Then while I'm doing that the girls are asleep. So when I'm getting up doing my morning routine, getting myself together, the girls are still asleep.

Even when they do wake up I still do my routine. If they wake up especially my youngest my oldest she do not she don't wake up okay, because she don't even want to get up in the morning. But my youngest sometimes will wake up so she'll come in a room scratch her eyes and I'm like, you gotta go I'm like, you can get a mommy's bed or you can go into play room. Take your choice, but I'm still doing what I need to do. So then once I get my myself ready, I get my youngest daughter ready first like I say she's the bright eyed bushy tailed in the morning. So I'll get her ready first because she's up, she's ready to go. Okay you up, let's do it, get her ready, which means put on her clothes, take her to the bathroom, brush her teeth, wash her face, spruce up her hair a little bit. And then I sent her but downstairs, she knows the game, she goes downstairs turns on the TV, honey, she is three years old but that girl knows she know how to run some technology.

So that's what happens. My oldest daughter. Now this is, this is where the part where it might take a little bit more time because my oldest daughter, she's five, she don't want to wake up like that. She's like, Mom I wanna be sleep. She reminds me a lot of me. She's very, very similar to me and so I get it. So I'm like wake up. I have to like, literally pull this girl up in her bed. And like massage her little body to give her a hug, give her kisses, I might have turned on music to wake her butt up. This literally takes me about, I will say three minutes because I don't have time for it. So I just I'm like, Okay, step your foot out your clothes. All of that is so then I get her dressed. So I get her clothes on. I take her to the bathroom, brush her teeth, wash her face, spruce up her hair, send her downstairs, then what I'll do after that is typically if I need to straighten up a little bit, I'll straighten up a little bit and then come downstairs, I don't do a whole bunch of straightening up. It's like, oh, let me pull the covers and make the bait a little bit.

Let me make sure that room doesn't look a hot mess. And then I go downstairs with them. That's when I started making breakfasts, okay, so I make breakfast for them. And when they're eating, then they start eating breakfast. When they're eating breakfast, I make my youngest daughter's lunch for school. So I make her lunch in the morning. Just because it's simple. we do the same think like we do the same thing. It's the same rotation every week and so I'll put her lunchbox together, which typically takes me about 10 minutes if that. While they're eating that's done, pack their bags, make sure that they have what they need in their bags. And then that's when I'll just put on their jackets and their shoes and head out the door. And that's our morning routine. I don't do much for me. I don't do much for me in the mornings, I don't. The most that I'll do is make coffee, but I really don't until I drop them off. And so that's my routine with them. That is our family routine.

It's very simple, very short, sweet to the point our entire routine, I would say because I know you might be thinking about what's the timing of this our entire routine, I typically will wake up at 6:30. And so it's typically from 6:30 to 7:30. And we're out the door by 7:30. That is our typical routine. We are out the door at 7:30. So it's an hour I can get my daughter's dressed really quickly. Like I feel like their routine of like getting them dressed and teeth brushing face washed probably takes about 10 to 15 minute breakfast is short and sweet. I don't do anything complicated everything in our routine is super simple. I don't try to overcomplicate it. I'm not over here, like oh my gosh, she needs something different because she just had PB and J. No, she don't she's gonna have another PB and J. That's what's happening. So I keep things very simple for our routine. So that's it. Hopefully, this was helpful. And here's what I want you to take away from hearing this routine. I didn't try to do a lot in this routine is super simple, very straightforward. Two I structured it to not have a lot of friction.

So my oldest daughter because she does not like to wake up in the morning, I get her dressed last because I'm not gonna get her dressed first, because it's gonna take a while for her to even wake up. So my youngest daughter already has a little pep in her step. Let me get her dress first, then let me get my oldest daughter dress. So I've reduced friction in my routine. And then lastly, I got myself ready first, because this works for me. I am typically the only person that gets them ready in the morning unless my partner helps. But I'm typically the only one getting them ready in the morning unless I need my partner to help. And so with that being the case, yeah, yeah, that's it. That's it. That is our that is our routine. But listen to those things that I shared that you want to take away from this. Not a lot, a very simple routine, not friction. And then I got myself ready first because this is what works for me is what works for me. You have to do what works for you every single time.
