Even when you are feeling unmotivated. Oh, my gosh, this is a hot topic. I remember getting this question so many times, about how do you still lean into routine? Or how do you still stay organized or get things done when you are unmotivated? When that feeling of motivation just isn't there, let's be real is not going to always be there. Sometimes it's going to ebb and flow. But you can. And there is a way for you to still move through your life. Get things done within your life, even when you aren't feeling unmotivated. And so just know that there's hope for you. There's so much hope here. And I think that this episode is really going to be helpful to give you some insight about this. But let's go ahead and get into today's episode. This is the final episode of the How To series, how to get things done when you're feeling unmotivated, enjoy. Hey, so this is audio class number three, where I'm going to be talking to you about how to get things done when you're unmotivated. Alright, girl, let's get into this. Because I already know that if you're listening to this, you're like, Yes, I need this, I need to hear this. And so I'm sharing what I know, I'm sharing what I know from my lens and what I do in my life, because here's the truth.
Ashley Brown 3:07
And here's the facts. We all experienced this, no one is motivated all the time. I'm not motivated all the time. Now, I do have a really strong discipline muscle, which I'm going to talk about that. But I'm not motivated all the time to do things. I just yesterday, I didn't want to do the dishes. I'm like, I don't feel like cleaning this daggone kitchen. I don't feel like tidying in this living room before I go to bed. I don't feel like it. I'm not motivated to do this, even though I know is going to be helpful for me. But we all experienced this. But the thing about it is you can still get things done when you're not motivated. Period. And I know you know this because you've experienced it, you've done things when you have not been motivated. We not always motivated, get our kids up in the morning. I know I am because I want to go to school because I'm like y'all go to school, learn, give me some time to be in my own thoughts and do what I need to do. But we're not always motivated to do things I cook or clean or you know, the things that just like we know are important, but we're not going to always be motivated. Even when it comes to sometimes our goals that we want in life, you know, goes as far as maybe getting into a different career or, or schoolwork because maybe you're in school and maybe you're like I got to do the school or we're not always motivated even though we want to get we want to accomplish the goal. That doesn't mean we're always going to be motivated, right? Because motivation comes from energy, right? And it's a certain energy where you feel motivated and sometimes we don't always have that energy. So just know that you are not alone in this. We all experienced this. Before I get into the things that can help I want you to know that doing things and getting things done when you're motivated is much about being disciplined. Which is honestly a mindset.
Ashley Brown 5:12
And it's a skill you have to build discipline, that muscle is not built or not given to you innately. Discipline is a skill that has been learned. So for anybody that you know, that is highly disciplined, they get things done. Even when they don't feel like it, you're like, oh, my gosh, she's crushing it at this, or she's doing this. And I wish that I could do that. First of all, all of that is too much. Don't even be thinking that because you're your own person. She's her own person. Everybody's different in different seasons of life. And everybody has different callings and purposes in different times. And so for one don't compare. But the thing about discipline is, it is a skill that is built that is learned. So why I mentioned that is because you can build and grow the skill of discipline, you are capable of doing this. And so I just want to put that out there, that this is much about being disciplined. If you are looking to try to do things and get things done when you're motivated. You have to build your discipline muscle. That is it. You have to get more discipline. Now, these are things that can be helpful for you even in being disciplined, is first you have to know the root cause of why you're unmotivated. Like, why are you unmotivated? Which is really just a lack of energy? Why do you like the energy to get done what you need to get done? Why are you not excited to get done what you need to get done? That's really important. So when you're in these spaces of not feeling motivated, you want to start to get curious about well, why am I motivated right now? Am I tired? Because I had a long day? And am I emotionally drained? Because I've been around my kids all day? Am I unmotivated? Because maybe I'm depressed? Am I unmotivated and lacked the energy? Because I already did five other things before this. Like, why are you are motivated to get the things done that you say you want to get done? Is it because you don't want to do it? So that's why you don't have the energy? Because you're like, I really don't want to do this. This isn't a goal of mine. It's a responsibility that I have. But maybe you haven't attached to a deeper meaning for that responsibility. And maybe that's why you're unmotivated. Right, sometimes the deeper Why is what attaches us to do things that helps us along when we're not unmotivated, because we know it's a deeper why and reason to why we're doing it. And so maybe some of your responsibilities, you haven't tapped into a deeper why, of why is this important for me to even do for me, right? So you want to get to the root cause of why you're unmotivated, and start to track that pattern of when do you do you find yourself being unmotivated?
Ashley Brown 8:22
When do you find yourself lacking the energy to get something done. And that can help. Because it goes back to like energy management. I think sometimes, especially when it gets to like the end of the day, because I feel like that's when many times we get into things where we don't feel like doing certain things as at the end of our day, because we feel depleted and energy is gone. And so we don't feel motivated to do the thing. And that's all about energy management. Like you have to learn how to manage your energy throughout your day, so that you don't get to the end of the day. And just stop doing what you know, is important for you to live a beautiful life and to feel aligned in your life. And for life to run smoothly. Like energy management is going to be the key to helping you with this. Managing your energy better. And managing your energy is really all about understanding. Where are you depositing energy and where are you leaking energy? Where are you deposited, depositing energy into your day? And where are you leaking energy. We all leak energy throughout the day. But for some of us, we're not depositing energy. So we wonder why we don't have any because we're not depositing it. Right. And so that's important for you to think about because the things that you do will leak energy like Do your actions will lead will, will leak energy from you as well as how you think. Because your thoughts lead to your emotions. And if you're always in an emotional state of like anxiety and stress, you're leaking all the time. And so that's why it's so important for you to have supportive practices like routines, which you know, I preach about and teach about all the time. That's why supportive practices are so important. Because you can deposit energy back into you, you don't leak as much as much energy when you have routines on board as well. And so it's really important for you to think about when you're motivated to do something.
Ashley Brown 10:39
What is the root cause of that? Why are you lacking the energy? And is there a way for you to manage your energy better, so that even though you might not be like, oh, I want to do this and super happy about it, but you're like, I have the energy, I can do it. Okay, so that's first. Secondly, when you're wanting to get things done, when you're motivated, you can grow your momentum, and energy to get things done. So you need momentum, if you're trying to get motivated. Momentum, motivation does not come from just sitting or not moving, you have to get moving in order to even spark motivation. There's ways for you to grow your momentum. I'm going to share a few ways that I do it. Just to give you some examples, I listen to podcasts, I'm a lifelong learner. So any anytime that I'm learning, I get momentum. It's just something about it. I'm like, Oh, that feels good. Like, it just gives me energy. And when I say grow your momentum, that just means like, give you energy. And so I like to listen to podcasts, or like certain talks on YouTube. I'm big on that, or even on Instagram. Another thing I do is turn on music, music gives me momentum gives me energy. Another thing that I do is without Oh, exercise, oh my gosh, exercise definitely gives me momentum energy. So I might exercise if I know especially if I know that I have to get something done. And I'm starting to realize that my energy is dipping, I will jump up and start jumping jacks or jump rope or something to like, move my body or even take a walk around the block to build my momentum and increase my energy. So that is a way that you can grow your motivation is through momentum, increasing your energy and what things give you energy, you want to think about that because these things you can do when you feel as if you're not motivated to create that momentum. Okay. Last but not least, I'm gonna share this with you, you have to strengthen your discipline muscles.
Ashley Brown 12:50
By doing it, even when you don't feel like it, just get up and do it. Just get up and do it, just get up and start doing it. Sit down and start doing it. Whatever it is, it doesn't matter if this is where you're home for your work, just do it. That's how you strengthen your discipline muscles. You just start ain't no building momentum, it's just I'm gonna start doing it, I have committed, I am going to start doing it, I am going to go into the kitchen, start running the water and I'm going to go ahead and wash the dishes like not in it has to be like a quick like, get up and do it. That's that's how you grow your discipline muscles. And because discipline is strengthened when you start to trust yourself more when you're when you start to when you don't allow yourself to cop out on the things that you say you want for your life or to do and accomplish in your life. The more that you build yourself Trust, the more you build your discipline. Some of us have gotten comfortable with training our brains that we're not going to do what we say we're going to do. But if you start to train your brain to understand no brain, I'm going to do what I say I'm going to do that strengthens your discipline. Because it's strengthening your self trust. And so that is major. Get up and do it even when you don't feel like it. Because take an action is not about you feeling like taking action. Sometimes we don't get to do what we want to do. And other times we just got to do it we got to do. It's just that's the name of the game. Right? Especially when we've made choices in our life where that's the case is like sometimes, yes, we're going to be able to do things in the way that we want. And other times it's like this is just is what it is. And we have to face that fact and still do the daggone thing. And so that is a really simple I'm not saying it's easy all the time, but it's a very simple way for you to strengthen your discipline. Muscle is by Doing things and getting started with things even when you don't feel like it. If you can just do that for the next five days, I'm telling you, it's gonna strengthen that discipline muscle.
Ashley Brown 15:10
When you be like her, anytime you're like, dreading something, or you're just like, I don't feel like doing it, just do it, just do it. I'm gonna challenge you today, for the next five days. When you feel as if you don't want to do something, just do it, commit to it, build yourself trust, and then that's going to build your discipline muscle. And that's how you're going to be able to consistently get things done when you're not motivated, or when you're unmotivated. That's how you're going to be able to do it. Okay, that's my two cents. That's all I got for you. And I think that that's enough, honestly, I think that's enough. That's a good starting place for you to think about, and digest and process the things that I just said to you. Go back and re listen to this. Re listen to it multiple times. Listen to this, when you're not feeling motivated. When you're unmotivated, be like let me turn on this. And listen to Ashley and let me hear what she has to say again, it'll motivate you to get your butt up and do what you say you want to do, and do what needs to be done. And times when you don't feel like it. I'm hoping that this was very, very helpful for you. Alright, so I hope that you enjoyed today's episode. Hopefully you found that very insightful. And those tips and suggestions helpful as you navigate still getting things done when you're not feeling as motivated.
Ashley Brown 16:40
Remember that motivation comes through movement. So even when you're not feeling that strike of motivation, you can actually motivate or get to the feeling of motivation, if you actually put action and take action, doing certain things like if you know, right now you're not that motivated to clean, get up and move your body like that's things I have to do. Like I might get up and start doing some jumping jacks, I might go ahead and do a little workout on YouTube, I may come and get on my computer and start doing some other type of work that I actually feel like I am motivated to do that can help lead into you fill in motivated. So just remember that as you move throughout life. Before we end today's episode, I just want to say thank you for being a listener. I am so very grateful.
