[Intro] Routines, my absolute favorite word, but you either love them or you hate them. And either way, I strongly believe that routines can be a springboard for improving your home, yourself and your life. I'm Ashley Brown, and this is the Routine and Things Podcast. In each episode, we'll dive into a specific routine or point of view that will move you closer to enjoying life more and more each day. Trust me, you're gonna want to keep listening, because you're well on your way to getting and staying happy.

Hey, welcome back for another episode of the Routine and Things Podcast. So due to the title of this episode, if you are listening today, I am going to make a huge assumption that you are feeling stressed. Or feeling like you're about to be stressed, or you're, like knee deep in stress and super overwhelmed. And so with that being said, I just want to encourage you today. This is what this episode is about. Because I know what it's like to feel stressed. Not the best feeling. I know what it's like to feel overwhelmed, and like you're buried knee deep in to dos. So, I want to encourage you today, if you are feeling stressed, if you are feeling overwhelmed, let me just share a quick story with you.

So, it was a time in my life where the stress was like, I don't know, I feel like overwhelm was not even the word. It was beyond ioverwhelm and beyond like super stressed. And that was when I transitioned from being a working mom to a stay at home mom. And you may have heard this story before. But I always reiterate it because it was a point in my life where I was not myself. It was a point in my life where I was super fragile. I felt very weak. And that's not me. So, I just want to say to you, that I know what it's like to have a lot on your plate, but not know if it's ever going to get off. I understand what it's like to want to be the best version of yourself. But you have so much that you need to do that you don't even know how to get to being that person. Or how to make the time for being that person. I understand what it's like to have one problem then turned into two problems then turn into five problems. I understand and I want you to know you're not alone. Because just as you sit here and listen to this today, someone else is sitting here and listening to this today. So I want to encourage you.

And the first way that I want to encourage you is by letting you know it's okay to cry. It's okay to release. It's okay to let it all out. Do what you need to do to release the stress. Cry. If you're in the car, honk the horn, yell into a pillow, go outside and take big deep breaths. Release it, release it. And then after you do what you need to do, after you release, however you need to release, I want you to know that you are okay. And you will be okay. You can do hard things.

When I'm feeling stress, this is what I do. And I'm saying this just to give you some ideas about how right now in this moment, in this season of life, how you can help to alleviate some of that stress and move towards it. So when I am feeling stressed, this is what I do, I pray. So if you have a strong faith, even if you don't, prayer works. That is one of my core beliefs, prayer works. So I love to pray. So I'll offer that to you. Also I love to listen to uplifting meditations. But you can listen to uplifting meditations. You can inhale deeply and exhale slowly. Many times when we have pent up stress it's because we're not taking breaths, we're not pausing enough to be present to breathe. Okay, so taking deep breaths is really helpful.

Also I reframe my thoughts. I think positive thoughts. Do not focus on what's wrong. The more you focus on what is wrong with your situation and what's not going right, that is going to cause more stress and frustration. So thinking positively about the situation, and it can be any nugget of positivity. And I want you to go in and make up lies, you know, I don't want you lying to yourself when it's not positive, but what you can do is find like a thread of positivity in whatever situation or circumstance that you are in. Okay, so think about what is positive. I always think back to I am able. I am a fully capable and able bodied individual, right, that is something that I have, I have that privilege and I have that right now. So one thing that I think about when I'm trying to reframe my thinking is, I am alive. I am here and although I'm in the thick of something, or although I might be stressed, at least I am able to take a deep breath and choose and make the choice to move towards removing the stress. So reframing my thinking is really helpful for me and it could be helpful for you too.

Also I like to practice gratitude. Gratitude practice has done so much for me. What it does is it puts you in a space of abundance and helps you to remain in the present moment. Because many times when we are stressed what is happening is we are thinking about things either in our past, or we are looking too far into the future. And so that brings up that tension, anxiety. So when you practice gratitude, when you are able to say, what am I grateful for? Right now, I want you to think about that. I want you to look around you wherever you are. I want you to think about your life right now. And I want you to say three things that you are grateful for in this moment. I'm going to give you some time.

Did you think about the three things because what that did was that put you back in the present moment. It helped you to refocus on positivity, refocus on what you had in the abundance that is around you because there is abundance around you. Even in hard and challenging circumstances and situations.
