Three Tips For An Effective Morning Routine
In this episode of the Routine and Things Podcast, I share three tips that can help you create a morning routine you'll enjoy and one that speaks to your soul and your soul only.

Hey, and welcome back to another episode of the routine and things podcast. So in today's episode, we will focus on three tips that can make for a very effective morning routine. But before I get into things, I want to give a quick life update about what's been going on with me and the fam, because I want to start sharing more of what's going on behind the scenes in my life because I think it's just a really beautiful way to just connect with you more to be perfectly honest, and so I want to give a quick life update. So right now, life is pretty good. I'm not gonna lie, I am enjoying teaching and spending time with my husband and my girls. I've been doing a live reflection and I've been on a journey of really healing. Honestly, that's what I've been doing, is really healing myself and getting to know myself like really getting to know who is Ashley right. So that's the journey that I've been on lately, I think is so important to work towards and proving myself because I know when I'm well those around me reap the benefits. And it also helps to model to my girls how to live well also. So that's what I absolutely love and I enjoy that. I have also been really into, just like I said, self care. I've always been a self care advocate but I feel like I've been doing a lot more as I'm getting to know myself. So I've been really into baths and painting my nails because it makes me feel beautiful. And anything that makes me feel beautiful i'm all for it these days. I've also been exercising. If you follow me on Instagram, which you should be following @routineandthings. I've been exercising and I started an exercise routine about probably about almost a month ago and I've been loving it. I've been absolutely loving it. I love exercising because it makes me feel energized and strong, so that's what I've been doing in the evenings once I put my girls to bed. Okay, so let's go ahead and get into today's episode. Like I said, we're going to be diving into three tips that can really help to make an effective morning routine. And I feel like morning routines are the golden standard for many people, but it's the first routine most people want to work on and create and to start is a morning routine. And it's the routine that so many people talk about, which is totally understandable because we think about morning as like starting your day off, right and so many of us want to start our day off on the right foot. And so we think that a morning routine can really help with that, which it absolutely can. So we're going to be diving into that today. I'm sharing three tips that I use to help me have beautiful mornings, so you can work towards doing the same.

First tip number one is to decide how you want to feel in the morning. This is really important because what you do in the morning is a direct correlation to how you will feel in the morning. So you want to start there. What you do in the morning is a direct correlation to how you feel in the morning. Okay, so you want to always start with how do you actually want to feel in the morning and this will guide you as to what you want to do in the morning. Okay, so that's first and foremost. So do you want to feel calm? Do you want to feel energized, joyful, pumped productive? What is that for you? Because if you start a morning routine that doesn't match how you want to feel in the morning, this will totally ruin the purpose of your morning routine. Okay? So base this upon what you feel like you need right now in your life. So when you're thinking about how you want to feel in the morning, this can change of course, I mean it can change from different seasons of life and wherever you are, it can definitely change. But when you when you are starting a morning routine or you want your morning routine to feel a certain way, you really want to dive into this, like, how do you actually want to feel?

You can also base your morning routine on your personality. I mean, if you're more of a spunky person in the morning, then maybe you want to be more spunky in the morning. Maybe you don't. Maybe you want to be the opposite. Maybe you're like I'm really spunky in the morning and I just want to start off on a more calmer tone. I mean, it's really up to you however you want to feel there's no right or wrong here. They say live life like the future you so if right now your morning routine doesn't have you feeling the way that you want. Then change it. You have that power. You decide how you want to feel in your morning and then create a routine to help you feel that way. You have all the power of doing this. So that's tip number one. First decide how you want to feel in the morning.

Tip number two is to keep it simple. My bestie was just saying this to me. She's like Ashley, I don't know if you said this to me, but I just keep saying keep it simple, sweetie. So when you are doing a morning routine or wanting to start a morning routine, this is so important. Because when you have a simple morning routine, you can do this at whatever time in the morning and it's not as overwhelming for you to start, this morning routine. If you overcomplicate or complicate your morning routine, especially when it's new to you, you will overwhelm yourself. I promise you that, so you want to always keep it simple. I've heard from women who say they have very long and extensive morning routines. And although I would never say not to do this, especially if it lights you up and it has you feeling good. I'm not going to tell you not to do it, like you do you boo. I want you to do what makes you feel good. However, I do think it's important to consider leaning towards simplicity when you are creating routines. I think it can be really helpful to lean more towards simplicity. Because if you have days that don't allow for the time you allotted for your morning routine, you still have a better chance of actually starting your morning in a beautiful way. Simplicity really helps to open up space and it also provides clarity as well. So think on that. Is your morning routine simple, or do you need to work on it becoming more simplistic? And simplicity does not mean a short morning routine. Let me make that very clear. It doesn't mean that it has to be short.It's more about having the most impact with less. Because I truly believe less is more in life in general. What's gonna make the biggest impact in your morning, doesn't mean that your routine has to be short. But what's going to make the most impact instead of like crowding your morning with a bunch of things, that's not as impactful? Let's think about taking maybe some of the things out or just putting a few activities in our routine, and then it has more impact. Okay, so that's tip number two, keep it simple.

Tip three, set yourself up for success the night before. So this is super crucial, but also something that I feel like many of us overlook. I know I did at a certain point. At a certain point, of me starting, a first like real morning routine. Yes, this is something that I totally overlooked, but I quickly realized it through some time. So in order for you to have an effective morning, the way you end your night before, is very, very important. Okay? Hear me when I say this, stop whatever you're doing. So in order for you to have a really effective morning routine, it's all about how you end your night before, the night before, is super important. I remember when I was waking up at 4:30 every morning, and I was doing this some time back and I struggled so much in the beginning, and realized that was because I did not go to bed at a decent hour. I would go to bed too late and I didn't give myself enough time to sleep. And not enough time that I actually need it. And so I didn't wake up at 4:30 and I didn't get started with my morning routine, because I was going to be too late and the way that I ended my night was not beneficial in me really having an effective morning routine or even doing my morning routine.

So how you go to bed the night before it really matters, it really does. If you want a morning routine that stays consistent, have a nighttime routine that is consistently setting you up for success. Get the rest you need. Go to bed at an hour that will allow you to carry out your morning routine. Fight the rebellious feeling of not wanting to go to bed. I know this may be really hard, it may be hard for you. But it is so vital to do if you want to have an effective morning routine. Trust me I know many people who fight sleep and I'm going to actually be talking about this in another podcast episode. If you're a night owl and you struggle with going to bed. I'm going to be helping you out in another episode. So yes, this is super duper important to think about. So that's tip number three To set yourself up for success the night before, if you want to have an effective morning routine.

Think about how you want to feel in your morning. Does your routine help you feel this way? Think about if your routine is simple. And then take a deeper look at how your nights end to see if you need to improve this in order for your mornings to be better. That's your routine work for today.
